There are those days that you just can’t stop wondering about what is going on in the world. For me, today was one of them. Maybe it was because I just couldn’t get in to writing my thesis; maybe it had something to do with watching the news first thing in the morning. Any way, my mind was spinning the whole day. I was first thinking of writing something about the position of women in some parts of the world, but then another issue caught my attention (again).
The Israel-Palestinian conflict. This is undoubtedly a horrible story for both sides. Both on Palestinian and Israeli side innocent people are having their lives fall apart, or even loosing it. Kids lack opportunities, so on and so on.
It is definitely very interesting and advisable to look in to this conflict a bit closer. To find out just a little more, go beyond what can be found in the regular media broadcasting. At the bottom of this blog you can find some links to interesting web-pages.
Occupation 101 shows the story just that little different to what you have heard before (assuming that you’re not more than average up-to-date about the issue). Killing innocent people (by suicide bombing or whatever means) is never ok, and can never be justified (and from political point of view, it was the most stupid thing the Palestinians could do). But this documentary definitely makes you feel sympathetic to the Palestinian circumstance. It makes one ask him/herself “What would I feel if it seemed the world was blind and deaf to my despair?”, “How would I feel if I found the human rights of my family, friends and neighbours violated day after day”, “How would it be to live in a occupied country”…… (*)?
Will you watch it? Just to find out for your self what you think of it?
