About

This is supposed to be about me, Petra Koenders.
I live in the beautiful Amsterdam in one of those tiny canal houses with my own import product (a sharepoint monster) and a cat… I grew up in a very small place called Avenhorn close to Hoorn. I don’t expect anyone, who didn’t live there, to know this; since Amsterdam seems such a big, far away city, for most of the people who live there. (In fact it is just a half hour drive, and i’m probably insulting some people right now…. sorry…)

I spend my time going through med school. Currently i’m in the 5th year, which means i’m doing something similar to an internship. I’ll explain. In the old system here in Holland (which i’m in) medicine takes six years of study. First four year studying, with very little patient contact, the last two years are a rotation (co-schappen) in most specialties. In these two years a student develops from a “stand in the way” to a fully operating doctor.  In the end of the two years there is a period called senior-internship. Here the co-assistenten (as the interns are called) are operating as docters, having their own patients etc followed by an “exam”. And then it really starts, the once students are doctors now, ready for the real work or specialize……

At last a little note on why i have a blog. When i spend some months living in London with my boyfriend, it was a convenient way to keep the people at home up to date of what i was doing.  Coming back to Amsterdam i kind of forgot about my blog, until almost a year later when i was about to head off to Tanzania. New trip new technology, i moved from MySpace to wordpress, later on Daniel insisted on moving my wordpress blog on my own site. Right here.  Coming back from Tanzania (with some encouragement of my geek boyfriend) I thought it would be cool to keep my blog alive to post some things i find interesting.

So long so far….

I suggest you just read my blog and find out more about me in that way.
